Craigslist to Charge for Most “By Dealer” Categories Starting December 1st

Craigslist added information to their website this week announcing they will begin charging $5 or $3 per posting for most of the remaining free “by dealer” categories starting December 1st. This comes on the heels of Craigslist initiating a $5 per posting fee for RVs & Motorcycles/Scooters on November 15th. When Craigslist began charging $5 per posting for the Cars & Trucks category in 2013, dealers who continued posting to the site experienced a significant boost in leads and walk-in traffic as a result. An added benefit of listing in a paid category is the ability for dealers to launch their units in multiple markets without experiencing the flagging, ghosting, and IP blocking issues experienced in the free posting categories.

The following are just a few of the additional paid categories starting December 1st. To see a full list, click Post To Classified on Craigslist and select “For Sale by Dealer”.
Trailers – $5
Heavy Equipment – $5
ATVs, UTVs, Snowmobiles – $5
Heavy Equipment – $5
Boats – $5
Farm & Garden – $3
Business/Commercial – $3

To avoid interruption in your Craigslist marketing campaign and ensure your ads continue to launch on December 1st, you will need to select one of the following methods to pay for your Craigslist postings:

  • Add your Credit Card to your Auction123 application stored on your PC. Craigslist fees will be automatically charged to your Credit Card for each posting that is launched from your account.
  • Prepurchase postings from Craigslist. You can buy a block of postings in advance from Craigslist for each location you want to post to. Prepurchased postings never expire and you can easily refill your block of postings directly from your Craigslist account as needed.
